We do not collect anything. We do not have a server. The app stores everything you scan on your device.
What the app stores on your device
Card images: photos you capture, kept inside the app's sandbox. Never uploaded.
Extracted fields: name, title, company, email, phone, website, and any notes you add or correct.
Events: an optional event label you assign to a card (e.g. "DevCon 2026").
App settings: an "onboarded" flag in user defaults so the welcome screens appear once.
How extraction works
OCR runs on your device using Apple's Vision framework. Structured extraction (separating name from title from company) runs on your device using Apple's Foundation Models. Nothing is sent to a Card Notebook server, because there is no Card Notebook server.
What the app does NOT do
The app does not connect to any Card Notebook server.
The app does not transmit your scanned data to the developer or any third party.
The app contains no third-party analytics, telemetry, advertising, or tracking SDKs.
The app does not read your existing Contacts. It only writes new contacts when you tap "Save to Contacts".
The app does not track you across other apps or websites.
Permissions we request
Camera: to capture photos of business cards. Requested the first time you open the Capture tab.
Contacts: only when you tap "Save to Apple Contacts". Used to write new contacts. Existing contacts are not read or transmitted.
Photos: only when you choose to import a card photo from your library (a planned v1.1 feature). The app reads only the photo you pick.
Apple Intelligence
The app uses Apple's on-device Foundation Models to extract structured fields from card text. This runs entirely on your iPhone — no requests are sent to Apple's cloud or any third party. If Apple Intelligence is unavailable or disabled, the app falls back to a built-in extractor.
App Store purchase
The app is paid up-front through the App Store. Apple processes the purchase. The app does not see your payment details. There is no in-app purchase, no subscription, no recurring charge.
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13.
Data retention
Data lives on your device until you delete it inside the app or delete the app itself. The Settings screen offers "Delete all data" to wipe every card, event, and image at once. iCloud Backup of your device, if you have it enabled, may retain a backup copy under Apple's encryption.
International users
The app is published in the United States. We do not direct the app to users in the European Union and recommend EU users not install it.
