Fahrtenheft is a tool for keeping your own driving log by hand and recording your trips without an edit function. Every value in it comes from what you type; the app records nothing in the background.
The only promise made is about how the software behaves: a saved entry is not overwritten, a correction or a void is added as an entry of its own and appears in every export, every load of a logbook copy is recorded in the log, and each entry carries a checksum that also covers the one before it. The checksums have no secret key, so a chain that someone has recomputed in full cannot be told apart by the checksums alone.
Fahrtenheft provides no assistance in tax matters. The app does not judge whether a trip is business, private or a commute, what you can deduct, which method suits you or how a tax office will look at your log. You choose the category; the app does not assess it. Questions of that kind belong with a tax adviser.
Electronic driving logs have no official approval or certification scheme. Fahrtenheft therefore holds none and claims none.
Only you can make sure the log is complete and correct. The app knows nothing of a trip you never entered, a reading that differs from the dashboard or a purpose described wrongly.
The hints shown on saving, for example about gaps or overlaps between odometer readings or about a trip entered more than seven days after its date, describe your own figures. They set no deadline, are not an audit and do not replace your own review.
How long you keep records is also your decision. The software contains no retention period. The app never removes a saved entry; a trip can only be voided, and only loading a logbook copy replaces what is stored, which then stays recorded in the log.
The log exists only on your iPhone, and no second copy sits with the developer. If you remove the app, or the device is lost, reset or damaged, every trip that is not contained in a saved logbook copy is gone for good. The developer cannot bring it back, because it never reached him.
So save a logbook copy regularly and keep it somewhere other than the iPhone; "Remind me to save a copy" can prompt you. Loading a copy replaces the whole log once you confirm. There is more in the help and in the privacy information.
The app is developed by Aleksei Bukhalov. The licence you receive is the one Apple issues for apps bought in the App Store, the Licensed Application End User License Agreement; the developer adds no licence terms of his own.
Once Apple has released it, Fahrtenheft is offered in the App Store as a one-time purchase, and the price that counts is the one the App Store shows for your country. The App Store is its only source. The purchase gives you the whole app; there is no subscription and there are no in-app purchases.
Your purchase contract is with Apple, which also takes the payment. Apple explains how to request a refund.
The developer is liable without limitation for intent and gross negligence, for injury to life, body or health, under product liability law and where he has given a guarantee.
For slight negligence he is liable only if he breaches an essential obligation, meaning one whose fulfilment makes proper use of the app possible in the first place and on which you may ordinarily rely. Liability is then limited to the damage that was foreseeable and typical when the app was provided. For lost data it is in that case further limited to the effort that restoring from a regularly saved logbook copy would have taken.
Your statutory rights if the app is defective, for consumers in Germany in particular under §§ 327 et seq. of the German Civil Code (BGB), and the terms of Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement remain unaffected.
