Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By installing and using the Fact Checker Chrome extension ("the Service"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not install or use the Service.

2. Description of Service

Fact Checker is a browser extension that analyzes images and text you select and provides an AI-assisted verdict (TRUE, FALSE, MISLEADING, or INSUFFICIENT_EVIDENCE) with supporting sources. The Service offers a limited number of free checks per device per day and optional credit packs for additional usage.

3. No Definitive Verdicts — Informational Use Only

Fact-check verdicts are informational tools, not definitive statements of truth. The Service uses AI models and external APIs to produce verdicts. These verdicts may be incorrect, incomplete, or outdated.

• Verdicts are not a substitute for professional judgment, journalistic standards, or legal, medical, or financial advice.
• You should always verify critical claims through primary sources before acting on them.
• The Service does not claim that any content is objectively true or false. It reports what available sources and AI analysis suggest.
• Verdicts may change over time as new information becomes available. The Service may re-check content and update verdicts.

4. Credits and Payment

• Free checks: Each device receives 3 free checks per day. Registered accounts receive 20 welcome credits.
• Fresh checks: Cost 2 credits. A fresh check queries live APIs and AI models.
• Cached checks: Cost 1 credit (half price). A cached check returns a previously computed result instantly.
• Credit packs: Purchased via our payment processor. Credits do not expire. Refunds are available within 14 days for unused credits.
• No subscriptions: We do not offer recurring billing. All purchases are one-time.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Use the Service to harass, defame, or target private individuals.
• Automate or script the Service beyond normal interactive use.
• Resell or redistribute verdicts as a commercial service without permission.
• Attempt to bypass rate limits, credit requirements, or payment systems.
• Use the Service for any unlawful purpose.

6. User-Submitted Content

When you right-click an image or text to fact-check it, you are submitting that content to our backend and third-party APIs for analysis. You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to submit the content for analysis. The Service does not claim ownership of submitted content.

Check results may be published on public permalink pages. If you do not want a check result to be publicly accessible, contact us to request removal.

7. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to accuracy, reliability, availability, or fitness for a particular purpose.

• We do not guarantee that verdicts are correct or that sources are accurate.
• We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation.
• Third-party APIs (Google Vision, TinEye, Brave Search, etc.) may experience outages or rate limits that affect Service quality.
• AI models may produce biased, hallucinated, or inconsistent results.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Service operator shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Service.

The total liability of the Service operator for any claim arising from these Terms shall not exceed the amount you paid for credits in the 12 months preceding the claim, or $50 USD, whichever is greater.

This limitation does not apply to liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law (e.g., gross negligence or willful misconduct under Serbian law).

9. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless the Service operator from any claims, damages, or expenses arising from your misuse of the Service or your violation of these Terms.

10. Account Termination

You may delete your account at any time by contacting us. We may suspend or terminate access if you violate these Terms. Upon termination, your credits are forfeited (unused purchases within 14 days are refundable).

11. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms as the Service evolves. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

12. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Serbia. Disputes will be resolved in the competent courts of Serbia. Nothing in these Terms limits any statutory rights you may have under your local consumer protection laws.
